Blast technology can be used in many ways for surface processing

SIGG offers a range of different systems

Blast technology – previously also known as sandblasting – is a method of surface processing in which a blast agent is directed using pressure onto the workpiece. The blast agent, alongside the blast method, pressure and material of the workpiece, is crucial for the outcome. While quartz sand has been used in the past, it is now no longer permitted due to its danger to health. Nowadays, blast materials are modern, versatile and perfectly adapted to the task at hand.

All kinds of results can be achieved with blast technology. The most significant possibilities include:

  • Cleaning
  • Derusting
  • Descaling
  • Deburring
  • Stripping
  • Decoating
  • Coring
  • Consolidating surfaces
  • Roughening, keying
  • Surface finish: mattifying, structuring

Blast technology is used in various methods and types of machinery. A distinction is primarily made into pressure blasting, injector blasting and wet blasting. The work can be carried out by hand or by machine. In this case, the blast systems are integrated into the production area and can automatically be loaded and unloaded as needed.

Blast technology: which system is the right one?

The system most suited to the production process depends on a variety of factors. The number of units expected, the material and the size of the workpiece, for example, play a part. As do the type of method and blast agent used, the required degree of automation, the amount of space available in the plant and other operational considerations. SIGG Strahltechnik has been accompanying companies through these decision-making processes for 60 years and serves as a competent adviser. In its own test laboratory, tests can be carried out with the workpiece and various blast technologies or blast agents. If wished, SIGG can also develop and build exactly the blast system needed for the customer's requirements. And if an investment in blast technology is not an option, SIGG can also carry out contract blasting on the customer's behalf.
