Vapour blasting principle

Structural blasting creates surfaces with a defined roughness

Consistent surfaces for complex parts

Various production techniques create different surfaces in production. Structural blasting can remove the traces turning, milling, casting or grinding left on the surface. The following effects are possible:

  • consistently structured workpiece surface
  • imitation of erosion structures
  • process effects
  • visual effects
  • haptic effects

Process effects include, for example, structural blasting of tools for plastic formed parts: Demoulding from blasted tools is much easier. Moulds for injection moulding wear over time. Their roughness must then be improved. If this no longer works, new, expensive tools are needed. Therefore, the casting moulds are usually elaborately re-eroded to improve roughness. Structural blasting can be a cost-efficient alternative here:

  • No electrodes need to be produced
  • Blasting takes just a few minutes
  • Various degrees of roughness can be set easily
  • The tool can be re-blasted multiple times
  • Downtimes are minimised
  • Productivity is improved

Structural blasting can be used for moulding tools in order to comply with design specifications as well. For example, some areas can be structured more or less strongly in order to produce gloss or improve slip-resistance in specific locations. This is important for plastic handles, the surfaces of plastic bottles and boxes, as well as for products for medical technology.

Structured surfaces scratch less easily than smooth ones. Structural blasting is more resilient than structuring by erosion or etching. SIGG blasting systems make structural blasting a time-saving and cost-efficient process - even at large quantities.
