Targeted processing of work pieces

with vapour blasting systems by SIGG

The machine types based on vapour blasting by SIGG Strahltechnik make targeted blasting of work pieces possible. Standard vapour blasting systems are available in various sizes (800 mm – 1400 mm) and in two different versions: Either with a side channel blower or optionally with a platform.

Vapour blasting systems for large work pieces

Even work pieces of relatively large dimensions, not suitable for shot-blasting wheel systems due to their shape (complicated constructs) or their type (permanently installed, not transportable constructs), can well and easily be processed with vapour blasting systems. This procedure applies to wet as well as dry blasting processes.

Dry blasting process with all commonly used blasting materials

During the process of vapour blasting, the blasting abrasive located in a pressure vessel is conveyed to the pistol nozzle by compressed air. Situated at the bottom of the vessel hopper is the chamber used for adjusting the blasting abrasive compressed-air mixture.

Out of the sealed vessel the blasting abrasive is added to the compressed-air stream and accelerated in the blasting hose. Once the overpressure in the vessel is the same as in the compressed-air line, the blasting abrasive can be interspersed without any counter pressure. The acceleration path of the blasting abrasive equals the length of the blasting hose, thus, several meters long. This results in a muzzle velocity of ca. 40m/sec., so that with the use of a pressure machine remarkable area outputs can be achieved. In pressure blasting systems, the blasting agent is accelerated directly from a pressure vessel. To do this, the pressure blasting pot is vented and filled with the appropriate blasting medium. The pressure blasting system's sealed pot is then filled with compressed air. A mixing valve under the pot brings further compressed air and the blasting medium together and transports the mixture to the pressure blasting systems' blasting gun.

Pressure blasting systems are available in different sizes (800 mm / 1400 mm), so that parts of different sizes can be processed. Even large workpieces that cannot be processed in the blast wheel system due to their complexity or shape can be processed in pressure blasting systems without any problems.

Pressure blasting systems are more efficient than injector blasting systems. This makes pressure blasting systems suitable for cleaning blasting, for example. Even heavily corroded metal surfaces can be prepared efficiently with this process. However the smoothing of metallic layers or blasting for the preparation of bondings as well as coatings are also common applications.

The blasting performance of pressure blasting systems is primarily based on four criteria:
• Pressure at the blasting nozzle
• Blasting agents throughput
• Outflowing compressed air volume
• Nozzle shape and nozzle diameter

Mixing valves with large cross-sections ensure a large blasting agent throughput in the pressure blasting systems. The loading factor is determined by the ratio of the quantity of blasting agent to the quantity of compressed air. SIGG's blasting technology experts provide competent advice on all aspects of compressed air systems and blast your sample parts.
