Deburring by blasting for precise surfaces
When millimetres matter, burrs must be removed cleanly
Highest precision is needed in medical technology. In particular small parts such as stents must meet high standards of quality. The grid tubes made of metal, metal alloys or other materials such as polymers or magnesium are inserted into vessels to support them and keep them open. Deburring by blasting gives the stents a clean surface that is as even as possible to prevent micro-injuries to the body's tissues that may cause inflammation.
Stent production of different materials
Modern stents are made, e.g., of nickel-titanium alloys – in short: NiTi. The material is very elastic and corrosion-resistant. The stents can be laser-cut from tiny NiTi-tubes, for example. This may lead to formation of burrs that are reliably removed through deburring by blasting. After deburring by blasting, the manufacturer cleans the stents with selected liquids in order to produce hygienic, medically impeccable products. Polymer stents are also carefully deburred by blasting to prepare them for the next production stages. Polymer stents are used to support vessels for a limited period of time. The material is made to dissolve slowly in the body.
Deburring by blasting is an efficient and low-priced solution even for small parts. The best procedure and blasting agent depends on your material and the desired result. Our experts will gladly advise you and supply blast samples to get the best blasting result for you.
