Whitewash blasting: Fine blast agents and water for gently structured surfaces.

Fine processing and surface finishes are produced easily

The basic principle: a fine-grained blast agent is mixed with water or another liquid. This creates a dispersion - a heterogeneous mixture of two components. A pump transports the dispersion to the spraying nozzle. In the nozzle, the mixture can be accelerated with additional compressed air if necessary. Whitewash blasting is not the same as pressurised fluid blasting: with whitewash blasting, the liquid is the medium for accelerating the blast agent, whereas with pressurised fluid blasting it is the compressed air. This means that, with whitewash blasting, the pressure level is just a few bar and the blasting power is lower. The blast agent used generally has a very fine grain. When it impacts the workpiece, the liquid has a braking and lubricating effect, making the blasting process very gentle. The method is therefore primarily used for fine processing or creating a surface finish.

Whitewash blasting has advantages

One key advantage of whitewash blasting lies in the fact that the process generates no dust. As a result, there is no burden on the environment and no additional work is required for aspiration and filtering. The second advantage lies in the gentle processing: not only is the workpiece protected by the water film, but so too is the blast agent. Consequently, the blast agent used in whitewash blasting can frequently be used several times over without any loss in quality. Whitewash blasting is especially suitable blasting precision cast parts, micro-deburring or for consolidating surfaces or cleaning surgical instruments. The blast agent is rinsed away after processing and the workpiece then dried.
