Smooth matting from the sludge gun

In order to achieve superfine surfaces for workpieces, many companies opt for the wet blasting principle. This way, watches, jewelry und products from the medical technology can be refined: They obtain a superfine matt finish. SIGG Strahltechnik provides a series of wet blasting systems, built in various sizes (700 – 1400 mm) and, according to customer’s demands, optionally available with an additional sludge pump for the robust agitator.

Fine surfaces by wet blasting principle

When the wet blasting principle, also called „sludge blasting” among experts, is deployed, the blasting abrasives and water are stirred up in a vessel and blasted at the workpiece by means of an injector blasting gun. A sludge conveyor pump is additionally incorporated, if higher pressure or larger volume flow is required. The result convinces by its flawless, fine surface.

Suspended blasting abrasives

The wet blasting principle implies particularly fine blasting abrasives suspended in water, causing a liquid film to build up on the surface of the workpiece to be processed. This protects the surface from abrasion and damps the blasting action. Particularly spared are the microscopically small cavities (pores), since they fill up with water immediately. This way they do not present a target for blasting abrasives, only the edged and raised parts are removed. The resulting surface roughness is reduced very gently, which, in comparison, cannot be achieved to this degree of fineness by means of dry blasting.
