Corundum is ideal for even the most stringent demands

Blasting corundum and white corundum are non-ferrous and economical to use

Corundum is a real all-rounder among blasting media: whether it be blast cleaning, mattifying, deburring or coarse blasting - with corundum a wide range of blasting jobs can be carried out reliably and cost-effectively. When used correctly, blasting corundum and white corundum are especially resistant to wear and can be used several times. Corundum can be used in both dry and wet blasting processes.

Standardised corundum sizes for all applications

There are recognised standards for corundum grain sizes. Before it is packaged, the material is sorted using standardised sieves and separated into sizes. SIGG blasting technology has eight different sieved grades in its portfolio, ensuring that the ideal blasting corundum or white corundum can be chosen for every blasting job. Corundum is one of the most important synthetic blasting materials that retains its angular shape - and therefore its effectiveness even after several runs through the blasting cabin. Corundum is therefore referred to as a multi-use blasting material. Because blasting corundum and white corundum are non-ferrous, the blasting medium is especially suitable for metal surfaces made from aluminium, brass or bronze, since flash rust is avoided.

Areas of application for corundum at a glance:

Corundum for blast cleaning:

  • Cleaning of metal surfaces with material removal (sanding effect)
  • Removal of rust and scale layers on metallic surfaces
  • Removal of annealing colours
  • Removal of paint layers

Other applications:

  • Surface preparation for protective layers and metal spraying
  • Roughening of metallic surfaces prior to coating (sweeping)
  • Processing of extremely hard workpieces
  • Mattification of glass

We would be happy to advise you on the use of corundum in your blasting system and check for you in our testing laboratory which quality and grain size will achieve the best result for your workpieces. The blasting method also needs to suit - only through the harmonious interaction of all factors can you especially efficiently and cost-effectively achieve the surface properties that your products are supposed to have in a reliable and reproducible manner.
