Surface processing with blasting technology

Use the matching blasting technology to achieve the desired effect.

Four large areas can be distinguished in surface processing with blasting technology. The right procedure depends on which result is to be achieved. We will gladly tell you more about the options of surface processing with blasting technology. Just call us at +49 (0)7741 808 93 0 or email us at info@sigg-strahltechnik.de. The following surface processing options are used the most frequently:

  • Cleaning blasting: This removes in particular adhesions, particles or layers of other materials. The blasting purpose is cleaning, detindering, derusting or delaminating. Surface processing with blasting technology serves, for example, to remove casting sand, coatings of any kind or dirt and rust. The basic materials will be mostly uninfluenced.
  • Blasting burr-free: Surface processing with blasting technology means removing the basic material in this case. For example, cutting or casting burrs are removed.
  • Surface processing: In this technology, the workpiece surface structure is changed specifically. The desired effects include satinating, smoothing, polishing or roughing.
  • Shot peening: This surface processing with blasting technology does not remove any material. In shot peening, small balls of selected materials are "shot" at the surface to hammer on the material. This improves permanent strength or shapes components.

Choosing the right blasting agent is also important for surface processing with blasting technology. The blasting agent, or blasting medium, can be classified by various criteria:

  • Form of the blasting medium: There are round or rather sharp-edged blasting media. Round grains have a cleaning or strengthening effect, while sharp-edged particles remove material from the surface and roughen up the area.
  • Hardness of the blasting agent: The harder the blasting agent, the rougher will the result be.
  • By size of particles: Larger blasting material particles have a higher strength at impact than smaller particles. The most homogeneous size of the blasting magnet is necessary for an even effect.
