Wet blasting systems for gentle surface processing

Vacuum in the blasting gun sucks up the water / blasting agent mixture

The principle of modern wet blasting system is based on compressed air coming out of the injector nozzle: this produces a vacuum inside the blasting gun. The water / blasting agent mixture is automatically and without any additional pre-acceleration drawn via the suction tube out of the material collecting container in the wet blasting systems. Inside the blasting gun, the mixture of water and relevant blasting medium is then picked up and accelerated by the jet of compressed air. Alignment and steering on wet blasting systems is performed with the exit of the mixture from the blasting nozzle at the tip of the blasting gun. Depending on the blasting material, the proportion of blasting medium in the mixture is around a third.

Stirrer in wet blasting systems ensures excellent results

In wet blasting systems, fine blasting media are suspended in water, i.e. mixed with water. The aim is to achieve as even a distribution of the solid particles in the liquid as possible so that the blasting results from wet blasting systems can satisfy high quality specifications and the effect on the blasted surfaces is as even as possible. Due to gravity, the solid components, however, have a tendency to gradually deposit in the lower part of the material collecting funnel. This is why SIGG wet blasting systems come equipped with a powerful stirrer. Stirring ensures a constantly even distribution of the blasting medium in the suspension and therefore a consistent intensity and quality during the blasting process.

Achieving the ideal surface with mud

Wet blasting systems use water as the means of transporting the blasting medium. The liquid film surrounds the individual particles and forms a layer on the surface of the blasted object. This processes the surface gently and prevents the blasting medium from having too powerful an effect. The result is especially great-looking and smooth matt finishes, especially for jewellery and watches, but also products used in medical technology.
